I live and work in Thessaloniki, as a visual artist and at the same time I teach (abstract, classical painting and personal style) at the private art workshop Karlas Art World. In addition to the courses I often organise seminars for special painting techniques.
Part of my personal artistic production is in private collections in Greece and abroad. Apart from my personal participation in art exhibitions and art festivals in Greece and abroad, I am also involved in the art editing of exhibitions of groups and individuals, other artists, as the presentation of the work of other artists, in a way that highlights the peculiarity of their psyche. This is for me an expansive act of art and personal artistic enlargement.
I am a graduate of the School of Visual and Applied Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where I studied in the workshop of Kyriakos Mortarakos.
I paint since I was a child… I had attended drawing classes, it was my second nature to have paper and pencil or pen in front of me and fill every white surface , even the frames of the pages of textbooks, with drawings. In high school I discovered graffiti and started filling walls in a need to expand into a larger surface. When I create, I have a sense of communion with an energy that is intelligent and perpetual, and I feel “sanctified” by entering another state where time and space are more vibrant. I feel like I’m on fire. I feel like here and now I belong … That’s why I do it.
As an artist, I am always in a state of unbearable curiosity and this attitude enables me to experience bliss at every step of the process.
I create experimentally, meaning that my concepts come from an experience of mine. This can be a new idea, a condition, a mental process, any condition I experience and want to approach more deeply. Inspiration is everything that will have the power to become an obsession for me because of the attraction that it exerts on me.This obsession will lead me to my workshop. And from then on the creative process begins for me the most important part, because that’s when the obsession becomes a relationship. I don’t want to control it, I want to let it evolve organically, and with it I go ahead. I’m afraid I might come to some conclusion one day and start producing manifolds and I try very consciously to protect my art from the routine, because she is my liberator and I would not bear to do this to her… Every project I do is for me a challenge, a journey, an experiment and a copulation.
I produce drawings several times mixed with text, paintings other times figurative, other abstract, other mixed, mixed media constructions and visual installations. My artwork is mostly mixed-media. I like to expiriment with different palettes and aesthetic styles. More directly I feel that I am expressing myself in three dimensions whether this is construction or an istalation. The 3rd dimension gives me the comfort of more eloquently capturing the breadth of experience I have when I conceive a project. I’m intrigued by the dialogue of many different materials, textures and structures, and the balance or not that arises. But it all starts with a drawing, then I decide if something else is going to happen and what and why…
