Interview with Alexander Katigoudis (al3X!)

Alexandros Katigoudis, known artistically as al3X! [the clown], is a Greek American contemporary artist celebrated

for his innovative approach to painting and sculpture. al3X! is known for his exploration of human relationships, social issues, and their complex impact on modern life. His work, primarily created using acrylics, sprays, and markers on canvas and wood, is characterised by dynamic lines, bold

shapes, and symbolic elements that reflect his background in graphic design and street art. al3X!’s art invites viewers on an emotional journey, encouraging deep introspection and challenging perceptions of the world. By shedding light on societal challenges, his work not only provokes thought but also inspires positive change.

Born in Houston, Texas in 1981, al3X! has lived in various cultural hubs, including the United Kingdom and the United States, before settling in Athens, Greece. His artistic journey began in the late 1980s when, as an elementary school student, he was given the opportunity to paint a mural at his school. This early experience ignited his passion for art, leading him to explore graffiti and street art, influenced by the vibrant sounds and visuals of his time. Over the years, al3X! has gained international acclaim, with his work being showcased in prestigious exhibitions around the globe. Notably, he made a significant impact at Art Basel Miami

in 2018 and 2019. In 2021, he was honoured as one of the top 100 Greek artists, solidifying his place in the contemporary art scene. al3X! continues to push boundaries, using his art as a medium for exploring the human experience and advocating for societal progress.
