Miranda Salena Armeni: I never felt that I chose to become a painter; I feel that this is who I am.

A paragraph of myself

As cliché as it may sound, painting for me is an expression. I admire and am inspired by many artists such as the Pre-Raphaelites, Frida Kahlo, Munch and others. I believe that art aims to evoke emotions and that is what I try to achieve through my work.

My Inspiration

I am inspired by many things; I generally like contrasts and a sense of magic. I am interested in human emotions, people’s life paths. Life itself, full of dreams, repulsions, love, bitterness and anything that turns life not necessarily into something beautiful but definitely complete, is what interests me. Whatever makes me feel, inspires me to try to express it through art.

My mediums

I use the simplest materials, such as canvas, wood and acrylic paint.

My Technique and Style

The techniques I use are, just like my materials, simple and classic. I believe that the differentiation of my work is based on the contrast between classical painting and surreal compositions.

How do you define the end, the point of completion for each one of your artworks?

Creating a new project is always a unique experience. Starting with a white canvas, you gradually witness a whole story unfolding, just like an interesting book. Sometimes, I prefer to stop, not on the last page as expected, but at the most interesting point, where the work starts to “talk” intensively to me.

How important is naming your artworks? How do you choose a name?

The title is often a description of the artwork or a summary of the artist’s inspiration. This does not interest me, so I mostly avoid giving titles to my works. My goal, as I mentioned above, is for my art to create emotions and transfer the viewer into his own magical fantasy world. I am not interest in making this world look like mine and this is why I prefer not to “guide” the viewer but to let him make his own journey.

Why did you choose art in your life?

I never felt that I chose to become a painter; I feel that this is who I am.
