Dimitris Pikros: “The Zen artwork and the artist’s follies are living together as one and only part of my life”

Interview to Sissy Sigioultzi-Rooka, Philologist, Writer, member of the Union of Journalists Periodical & Electronic Press NWE, Radio Producer at radio1d.gr and President of the”Greek Cyprus Cultural Association”

A paragraph of myself

The wisdom of yoga and meditation balances the artist’s follies.

After having lived a rather eccentric and outgoing life, I retired from the art business in order to embark on an art journey of self-growth and personal development, where I developed my knowledge of Zen, Life coaching, Meditation and Yoga philosophies.

I call it “Zen artwork period”. It helped me develop personally and find my inner peace and balance. Since then, the Zen artwork and the artist’s follies are living together as one and only part of my life, just like salt and pepper needed in food.

My Inspiration

I am inspired by the present moment and everything that can be discovered by getting out of it. That’s why I am motivated in creating paintings that represent the outlook of the present moment, trying to fuse a new dialogue of shapes, textures and elements inspired by our design-oriented times

My mediums

Acrylic on canvas mostly. I am interested in preserving the canvas as a classic element of the exhibit, but sometimes I like to combine it with interactive art installations and/or performances.

My Technique and Style

I am interested in developing a process with unpolluted colors and shapes. This fascination aims to an outcome with a contemporary feel and the combination of shapes and colors, thus contrasting the sense of perspective without the presence of the outline. The outcome of that process is what I now calling “Graphic Paintings”.

How do you define the end, the point of completion for each one of your artworks?

When I see it and when I feel the emptiness within me. When I have nothing else to offer and nothing more to express.

How important is naming your artworks? How do you choose a name?

The title is very important to summarize the told story of my artwork. As I haven’t been good in telling stories or jokes, thus the story told through my artworkis an outgoing form of expression.

I am focused on creating thematic art projects, and telling stories (personal or not) that make the viewer think and find out the relation with the painting, or art project.

Why did you choose art in your life?

It helps me to externalize everything I need to express and / or tell, and thus be able to clear out and get to state of meditation.

After having decided what I am going to tell through my paintings, and just at the precise present moment that I am painting, the mind is back into the body, is getting into the state of concentrating on one thing, as well as the art of being present with experience, emotions, and thoughts as they occur
